2009 TARGET AUDIENCE /PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
This program is intended for all pharmacists and technicians with an interest in: prostate cancer, cardiovascular, ICU pearls, H1N1 virus and the naturopathic pearls.

Upon completion of the program the participant should be able to:

     Session 1 - Pharmaciists

*Show the risk factors, clinical symptoms and staging for prostate cancer
*Explain the presentation, incidence and growth pattern for prostate cancer
*Identify the role of laboratory values, including PSA, in diagnosis, staging and evaluating response to treatment in patients with prostate cancer
*List the treatment options available for patients with various stages of prostate cancer including the treatment of stage D disease with endocrine therapy (hormone-sensitive disease) as well as the role of chemotherapy in hormone-refractory stage D disease
*Counsel patients on the adverse effects of agents used to treat patients with prostate cancer
*Identify supportive care issues related to prostate cancer
*Identify the major characteristic of new classes of cardiovascular and anticoagulation medications, including mechanism of action, dosing considerations and major side effects
*Analyze the results of current clinical trials supporting the use of new therapies for selected medications
*Explain the role of new therapies in the management of cardiovascular and anticoagulation disease states
*Identify patients who would be eligible to receive alteplase for ischemic stroke
*Classify the risk of nosocomial pneumonia in ICU patients receiving proton pump inhibitors
*Apply the recommendation for glucose control in non-cardiothoracic surgery ICU patients

     Session 2 - Pharmacists and Technicians

*Explain the characteristics and parameters of the pandemic
*Identify clinical manifestation of the infection
*Select options for therapy and prevention of infection
*Explain the medical indications, potential benefits and necessary cautions associated with the use of the following four classes of natural therapeutics: 1) Probiotics; 2) Omega three fatty acids, 3) Phytosterols and; 4) Vitamin D
