Assigned Abstract Numbers

For evaluations we will now being digital submission.  We will have a few hard copies as well on site.  More information will given as the conference gets closer.


Conference attendees may park in Parking Lot K on the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center campus. Our street address for the College of Pharmacy is 1110 N Stonewall Avenue but you will actually need to turn into the parking lot between the College of Nursing building and the soccer field. See attached parking map for a visual. If the entry gate is down, please take a ticket at the gate.  Bring your parking ticket inside and these will be collected at the opening session.  The parking tickets will be validated and returned to you prior to the end of the conference.


The College of Pharmacy is located between the David L. Boren Student Union and the College of Allied Health building. Refer to the parking map for further details. You may enter the College of Pharmacy via the back door.





·         Attire:  Dress for the conference is business casual; however, presenters should dress in business attire during their presentations. 


·         Attendance:  Many hours of work go into preparation for the research presentation.  Residents and preceptors are expected to attend the entire conference and support their fellow attendees by attending presentations throughout the day.   


·         Conduct:  Attendees are expected to maintain professional conduct at all times.


·         Evaluations:  Each attendee will complete an evaluation for each presentation they attend.


·         Meeting rooms:  Multiple rooms may be used simultaneously to accommodate presentations.   Each room will have a screen, projector, podium, and computer.


·         Name Badges:  Name badges must be worn at all times


·         Presentation length:  Each platform presentation will be allotted 15 minutes for the presentation plus 5 minutes for questions from the audience.


·         Punctuality:  Presentations will begin promptly at the designated time.  Please respect the presentations in progress by not entering a meeting room once the presentation has started.


Presentation Requirements:  Presenters will need to complete the following:

1.      Intent to Present Survey – deadline Friday, February 22, 2019 at 5:00pm CST


2.      Abstract – deadline Monday, April 22, 2019 at 5:00pm CST

3.      Research Protocol – optional for presentation, but required if opting in for research award consideration – submit with abstract by Monday, April 22, 2019

4.      Speaker Bio – submit with abstract

5.      Two learning objectives and two self-assessment questions (multiple choice) – submit with abstract

6.      Meeting Registration – must be complete by April 22nd  

7.      PowerPoint Slides – deadline Monday, May 13th, 2019 at 5:00pm CST

8.      Handout – submit with PowerPoint Slides


Research Award: The Oklahoma Resident Research Conference will be offering two Excellence in Research Awards.  In order to be eligible for award consideration, presenters will need to submit a copy of their research project protocol with the abstract and indicate the desire to opt-in for award consideration.  Six award finalists will be selected from a review committee based on abstract and protocol review using a rubric.  These finalists will be notified prior to the research conference and will be scheduled to present during the first sessions of the morning (finalist block) to compete for the award.  Judges will be present at the presentations to provide scoring to be used in the final award recipient selection process.  Research Awards will be presented to recipients during the award ceremony at the later part of the conference.  Additional details about the research award will be shared via email. 


Abstract Guidelines:   Topics can cover all pharmacy practice areas and topics, but all work must be original. Acceptable types of projects include clinical and administrative case reports and research projects that are completed or in progress.  Patient care topics should be cases in which the resident served as a member of the health care team.  Literature reviews are not acceptable for this conference.  Abstracts being presented at this conference may be presented at other conferences. 


Abstract submission: Deadline Monday, April 22nd, 2019 at 5:00pm CST

-          Your abstract submission should be sent via email to Lisa Slaton at

-          Email text – your email should include your name, work address, work phone, email address and title of submission.  Email subject line should read Resident Abstract – Last Name (i.e. Resident Abstract – Smith)

-          Attachments – you must attach the following items to your email


1.      Abstract.  Your abstract must include the following: 

·         1 page, typed, single-spaced (9-point, Times New Roman font.  Leave a 2-inch margin at the top and on each side; leave a 2 ½- inch margin at the bottom. 

·         Name the file Last name.firstname.abstract.docx (i.e. Smith.John.abstract.docx) – must be in .doc or .docx format, no .pdf

·         Title (type title in BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS, no underlining) followed by names of all authors in upper- and lower-case letters – omit titles and degrees, and underline the presenter’s name.  List the name of the resident’s institution, city, and state (no street address, titles, or degree)  

·         Introduction

·         Methodology

·         Results (if applicable – if not, please make the appropriate notation)

·         Conclusion


2.      Research Protocol – this is only required if you if you are opting in to be considered for the Excellence in Research Award – submit with abstract by Monday, April 22, 2019.  Please indicate within the protocol whether the project has received IRB approval.  Name your protocol lastname.firstname.protocol.docx (i.e. Smith.John.protocol.docx)


3.      Learning Objectives and Self-Assessment – two learning objectives and two self-assessment questions (multiple choice) with answers are required for presentation acceptance.  Please use 9-point font, Times New Roman font.  Name your attachment last name.first name.assessment.docx (i.e. Smith.John.assessment.docx). 


4.      Speaker Bio

·         The session moderator will introduce each speaker using a brief speaker bio.  Please use 12-point Times New Roman font and format as in the example below. 

·         Please supply the following information for your Speaker Bio:

-          Name (phonetic pronunciation in parentheses can be helpful)

-          Degrees obtained and colleges where obtained

-          Name of site of current residency (if PGY2 resident, also include site where PGY1 was completed)

-          Current picture (optional)

·         Save and name your file using this format:  last name.first (i.e.

John Resident completed a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at State University.  He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Awesome University College of Pharmacy in City, State.  John completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at Get Well Hospital in City, State.  He is currently completing a PGY2 residency in Infectious Diseases at Cure You Fast Medical Center in City, State.  In his free time, John enjoys running and rock climbing. 



PowerPoint Slides:

The deadline for PPT submission is Monday, May 13th, 2019 at 5:00pm CST.            

Late submissions will not be accepted and all submissions are final.

Format instructions:

1.      File must be submitted as a PowerPoint (.ppt or .pptx).  Files submitted in other formats such as .pdf will be rejected

2.      File name must be saved as Last name.first name.powerpoint.pptx (i.e. Smith.John.powerpoint.pptx)

3.      Slide design

·         Use a PowerPoint slide template with standard fonts - font incompatibilities are a common problem with presentations and may not display properly on other computers

·         Hyperlinks to or other integrated files (graphics, animation, videos, polling software, etc.) are not allowed.  Files with such will be rejected.

·         Please number your slides.

4.      Slide layout – slides must be in the following order and include the information specified

·         Slide 1 – Title page

§ Abstract presentation number and IRB status (lower left corner) – pending, received, approved, exempt, or not needed – no human subject data

§ Presentation title

§ Presenter’s full name

§ Position (PGY1 Resident, PGY2 Resident, etc.)

§ Residency Program Title and location

§ Optional - May include a photo of institution and/or company logos


·         Slide 2 – Disclosure statement

§ Full name

§ Conflict of interest (state speaker has none if that is the case)

§ Sponsorship (that speaker received no funding to support his/her research)

§ Propriety information (stating that research is subject to different interpretation)

§ Educational in nature (speaker agrees that their presentation abides by the non-commercial guidelines)


·         Slide 3 – Learning objectives

§ Objective 2

·         Slide 4+ – Background/Introduction material (to set up purpose for study - may be 2-4 slides depending on material)

·         Remaining slides – can be in any order depending on the nature of your presentation/project, and for example may include:

§ Conclusions or Implications  

·         Last Slide – the two pharmacist post-test self-assessment questions you submitted with your abstract (must be related to the objectives you selected)


5.      Make sure the file you submit is your FINAL version – this is the version that will be used at the conference.  Changes will not be allowed. 

6.      PLEASE NOTE:  you WILL NOT be allowed to use any of your own equipment (laptop, tablet, speakers, clickers, etc.).  All presentations will be preloaded onto conference computers.  No additional equipment may be connected to the conference computers.
